Comments about Pelican International Pelican Colorado Canoe - Assembled:

I bought this canoe a little over a year ago when it was on sale ([$]) and I couldn't beat the price anywhere for any canoe! It isn't the best canoe out there, but it was a great value for the money I paid. I have taken it on both lakes and rivers and it has performed well, yet more unstable than some better canoes I have used. Tracking, while fine, is also not as good as some pricier canoes. My ten year old son can also paddle it and we both usually fish out of it on our trips. It is light enough for me to portage from my Jeep to the water by myself or with the help of my son. We usually pack it down with a cooler, tackle box, fishing rods, dry bag with supplies, towels, etc. and it handles all of it just fine. I was a little worried about the plastic body, but it has handled the occasional scraping from rocks in the rivers without any problems. I would not recommend this canoe for whitewater due to its average stability and tracking. However, as a fun, recreational canoe for flatwater trips you can't beat the value for the price. We have had a blast with it!

This product is terrible, very flimsy hull which causes the canoe to be extremely unstable. This is the worst consumer product I have ever purchased, don't waste your money unless you wanna get wet.

I finally got my canoe out on the water on a local river. We paddled upstream first and I felt the canoe handled great. Easy to steer and paddle. The only issue I had relates to those saying it is kind of tippy. We had three adults in the canoe and it was, at times, pretty tippy. However, my wife, who was in the middle seat, moved to the floor of the canoe and the stabilization was so much better. I think with our center of gravity that high, made it a little wobbly. Hit a few hidden rocks and the canoe just bounced right off of them..no problem. Looking forward to many more trips on the water.

I purchased this canoe on sale and preassembled. My daughter, who is seven and weighs 50lbs, and I went out on the lake today. Wind calm, with just a ripple on the water. Had a great time.

I am 6'1" and 215, with just me and my girl in the boat with a small cooler the boat performed very well. Whoever says this canoe is unstable has either been in canoes far superior to any I've been in or has never been in one at all. It seems as stable as any canoe I have ever used. My daughter even walked back to the cooler and back to the front (usuing the three point method), reached out and played in the water and hung her feet over the side while I paddled, with no scary moments at all. Paddles easy enough that she actually paddled for a while from the front, while I just sat back and took it easy. I also dropped her off on shore and soloed a bit and everything went well.

Yes it oil cans a bit, but for the price I can't complain. Tomorrow, we're going fishing in it. I can't wait.

Great cost effective way to get out on the water and spend some time together. I plan to do a lot of fishing this summer and then some duck hunting from this canoe in winter. I have no doubts that it is up to the task.

Comments about Pelican International Pelican Colorado Canoe - Assembled:

I went out on the lake this past Saturday and I was impressed by it. All the people who were saying it was "tippy" either did not have the weight distributed correctly or they had no prior canoe experience. The only scary moments were when someone shifted without warning and even then there was no reason to think it was going to tip. With a 190 pound person in the back and a 130 pound person in the front it tracked well if both people were paddling. However when I alone was paddling (the 130 pound guy) i found it hard to keep the canoe going straight, but an experienced person should have no trouble at all. The rod holders are great as long as rods aren't in them while the person paddles. It is an extremely light boat for two guys so that was a huge plus. To sum it all up: A great canoe for the beginer/price minded people.

Comments about Pelican International Pelican Colorado Canoe - Assembled:

I took my son out (5 yrs. old) yesterday in this canoe on some backwaters of Cave Run Lake KY. The canoe did very well. It still felt tippy but it was only a feeling. My son actually walked around in the boat, going from the front to the back. In the shallows I allowed him to stand and he did so with minimal balancing problems. Does great on calm water. On the return trip a storm was blowing in and there was considerable winds and small 2 foot waves (no white caps). The boat rode the waves very well but the wind made paddling a real chore. Everytime I started to rest we were being blown the wrong direction. I transitioned to my knees to paddle and this helped tremendously. Overall, great trip....Last review I stated that I would not pack gear without outriggers, I may have spoke to soon. This boat could probably do well loaded if the load was distributed correctly (as with any canoe, weight distribution is critically important. I believe that this is a good canoe and will serve you well.

Comments about Pelican International Pelican Colorado Canoe - Assembled:

I have recently used this boat for an evening paddle with my wife. We found the boat did track well in the water and felt stable while moving. However, when we would stop paddling to view the wildlife it felt very "tippy". At no point did I believe we were going to flip but she wasn't as confident as I. Overall, we did enjoy ourselves but before I would load alot of gear into this craft I would consider outriggers. I am taking my son out this coming weekend on some backwaters and will review later how it went with a child (he is 5 years old).

can't beat the $$ - but poor handling

Cons:
Poor flat water handling, Unstable
Describe Yourself:

Comments about Pelican International Pelican Colorado Canoe - Assembled:

I have used quite a few canoes of all shapes and sizes in my life and can hold my own when handling a canoe. However, the Pelican Colorado has to be one of the poorest handling canoes that I have ever used/owned. Yes, I realize "it's a canoe" and rock-solid stability is not to be expected. However, this thing feels as if it will tip if you don't hold your breath just right. Also, I do not recommend this for flat water. The tracking is non-existent. I bought this one based on the price and the previous review that mentioned fishing from the canoe. I have a feeling that the previous review was about a different canoe model. Because, fishing is impossible without outriggers.

However, I have to give credit where credit is due. I could not beat the price. And the hull seems durable for a plastic canoe. I do not have a problem porting (from vehicle to water) short distances.

This would be a good back-up canoe, but I do not recommend this for a new beginner.

Comments about Pelican International Pelican Colorado Canoe - Assembled:

I've had the canoe for over two years. I use it mostly for fishing. I took it to the Minnesota boundary waters and it performed very well. It was a little heavy for portaging (you can't appreciate a light canoe til' you've carried a heavy one). It's very stable, and although not recommended, I often stand up in it while fishing. I observed another fisherman catch a 43" Muskie out of one just like mine, without tipping over. I white knuckled through 2 foot waves in it, no problem. The only other draw back is that you can't put a yoke on it because of the center seat position

.

Comments about Pelican International Pelican Colorado Canoe - Assembled:

This canoe is a great value. It is very stable and pretty much bullet proof. I have read reviews about this canoe and people stated that it was "tippy". ITS A CANOE. I have not had any issues with the stability of this boat. I have seen inexperienced paddlers that were also obese and they experienced problems keeping the boat upright for the first few turns but usually adjust within the first hour. I would recommend this boat to anyone.

This is an awesome canoe; it provided me and my family with great fun during the first and every time we took it out on the lake. It seats 3 adults comfortably and it’s not too bad in rough waters (I know that first hand since I was in the middle of the lake when a storm hit the area and water became very rough). You get this much fun for a wonderful price.
